Basic Pistol Instructor

Wood River Valley NRA Instructor Course

This private course will give Instructor Candidates the opportunity to earn the NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instructor certifications as well as the NRA Range Safety Officer Certification (RSO). Instructor Candidates will complete the Instructor Certifications over three consecutive days in March and return for the RSO course in April (date TBD). Attendees will also complete the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) as well as the Basic Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun courses as part of the curriculum in order to fulfill the mandatory prerequisites.

Instructor Candidates should anticipate full day courses from 9 am to 5 pm with a WORKING LUNCH. We may not need the full time allocated but instructor candidates should plan accordingly.

Students may pay the full cost of $800 upfront or a deposit of $400 prior and the remainder in cash on the first day of the course. *Deposits and course costs are non-refundable.  

Prerequisite:

  • 21 years old

  • Complete Basics of Pistol, Shotgun, and Rifle Training with a score of 90% or higher

  • Qualify at the Instructor Level for each discipline

  • Complete a pre-course firearms handling drill

  • Complete a pre-course questionnaire

Wednesday, March 17th, 9 am - 5 pm (NRA BIT & Pistol Instructor)

Thursday, March 18th, 9 am - 5 pm (NRA Pistol Instructor)

Friday, March 18th, 9 am - 5 pm (NRA Rifle & Shotgun Instructor)

April date TBD, 9 am - 5pm (NRA RSO)

Equipment:

  • Lunch daily

  • Handgun (any action type) with 50 rounds of ammunition

  • Rifle (any action type) with 50 rounds of ammunition

  • Shotgun (any action type) with 50 rounds of ammunition

  • Hearing protection

  • Eye protection

Credential Fees:

Upon the completion of this course instructor candidates must pay a credentialing fee directly to the NRA.  Credentialing fees are based on NRA membership status and current instructor status as follows:

  • NRA member first instructor rating - $30

  • NRA member additional instructor rating - $10

  • Non-NRA member first instructor rating - $50

  • Non-NRA member additional instructor rating - $30
