This course is a pre-requisite to becoming an NRA Basic Pistol Instructor. There are no exemptions for this requirement. These standards are set forth by the NRA.
The goal of the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting - Instructor Led Training (ILT) is to teach students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. This 8-hour course goes over both the revolver and semi-automatic action types in great detail. This course is an excellent starting point for the new or soon-to-be pistol owner or the shooter looking to become more proficient with their own firearm.
Students are encourage to use their own handgun. Students who do not own their own firearm or are looking to purchase their first handgun may rent our firearms.
Instructor will cover the range fee and cost of targets. Students are responsible for firearm rentals (if needed) and at least 100 rounds of ammunition.

- Ear and Eye protection (electronic muffs preferred)
- Semi-Automatic Pistol with at least 100 rounds of ammunition.
- At least two functional magazines (semi-autos).
- Comfortable clothing and a shirt that covers the chest.
- Shoes/Boots – comfortable with sufficient support to permit a full range of motion. No sandals or flip-flops.
